Flight School

Recreational Flight Permit

Course Requirements

The minimum age to qualify for a full license is sixteen although you may begin flight training at age fourteen. You must receive an aviation medical, category 1,3 or 4. The category 4 medical is a Civil Aviation Medical Declaration which must be co-signed by your family doctor.

If you want a category 1 or 3 medical our local approved examiners are:

Williams Lake, Dr. David Whitman, Yorkston Medical Clinic, 143 S 4th Ave, 398-8319

100 Mile House, Dr. Gordon Hutchinson, Exeter Clinic, Horse Lake Rd, 395-2271

Quesnel, Dr. John Maile, Holley Clinic, 348 Front St., 992-2158

Proof of age and citizenship must be made available to issue a Student Pilot Permit. You may use a birth certificate, passport or a Canadian Immigration Record.

FLIGHT TRAINING

The flight training portion of our program follows the Transport Canada training syllabus. The training is both challenging and enjoyable. We lead each student through the progressive levels at a pace that is comfortable. A minimum of 25 hours of flight training is required for the Recreational Pilot Permit (RPP). The flight training is both dual (with an instructor) and after reaching the required standard, solo. The duration of each flight lesson is usually one hour although some lessons require more time. For each flight there will be short pre-flight and post-flight briefings. The first goal of your flight training will be your first solo flight - a thrill you won't soon forget ! After that you will be learning new skills with your instructor then practicing them solo. Once you have reached the experience and skill requirements for your license you are ready for your flight test.

GROUND SCHOOL

The ground school portion of your pilot training is normally started at the same time as your flight training. Students may also complete the ground school before starting flight training if they wish. There are two options for completing ground school. The best and most commonly used ground school option is regular class room instruction. We will inform you of the first available starting date when you enroll in pilot training. The second option for ground school is supervised home study. We make this option available for students who are unable to attend regular ground school or during the times in-class ground school is not available.
